The age of ME
When I was a little girl, you had TV stars and regular people; journalists and newspaper readers; ballerinas and those who went to the ballet. Nowadays, that's all changed. Regular people are the stars of far too many TV shows, and anyone and everyone can be their own op-editor. It is an age of ME - MY facebook status, MY blog, MY itune playlists. We all spend so much time updating our own social networking pages, online scrapbooks, blogs, websites and so much more - I sometimes wonder if anyone has time to actually read it. Or are we all just busy, busy, busy getting every last scrap of personal information on the world wide web? Are we all so self-obsessed that we'd rather spend two hours posting our pictures on Twitter, Facebook and MySpace, than reading any one of the many time-honored newspapers who are now facing bankruptcy? Is it SO much more important for me to blog, than to read the latest news from Afghanistan?

Getting started
My name is Carla Milarch. Today, I am a blogger. Despite a marked lack of time for pursuits other than being the Executive Director of a non-profit professional theatre, and raising my 3 month old son, I have decided to take the last existing sliver of my day and devote it to expressing myself in yet another online forum. Yes, its gotten to the point where my facebook status is simply not enough self-expression for me. I must "blog." I will join the throngs of those whose cybernarcissism leads them to sit down and spew thoughts that they are convinced others will find interesting.
Who knows, maybe I'll write something that someone finds useful. At the very least, perhaps I'll find it therapeutic. With any luck, I'll finally live up to the nickname given me by those even less original than I, full of malarkey.
